Abstract:
Based on the elaboration of the erosion mechanisms and governance status in differentregions, this paper proposes that the sediment management in the basin must adopt the strategy of “tailoring measures to local conditions and implementing policies by region” in light of the distinct erosion and geomorphic features. It then proceeds to conduct research on the framework for constructing a near-natural ecological restoration system for the Ten Tributaries, suggesting technical systems such as erosion source control in the hilly and gully areas in the upper reaches, erosion reduction in the upper and middle reaches with complex erosion features,wind-sand control in the desert areas in the middle reaches, sediment disposal in the plain areas in the lower reaches, and rainwater and floodwater replenishment to the Yellow River. It also suggests that it is necessary to conduct research on the prediction of the effect of regionalized governance of the Ten Tributaries on the sediment reduction of the main stream of the Yellow River in Inner Mongolia, and summarize the key technologies and clear research issues for the construction of different technical systems. The research results are expected to provide a model and template for sediment control and near-natural restoration in similar regions, and offer technical support for enhancing the ecological security resilience of the Yellow River Basin.
